Integrating Concept Networks and HyperMedia
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper reports on an integration of concept mapping for manipulating and structuring knowledge with multimedia presentation technology. It presents the current development of the HyperMedia Activated Network authoring environment. HAN is an intelligent hypertext demonstrator system. The first HAN module, called ICADT, was developed initially to teach Computer Aided Architectural Design (CAAD) using the GABLE 4DTM CAAD environment at Sheffield University, (Scott and Lawson, 1990; Scott, Lawson and Ryu, 1991; Scott, 1993). Following a detailed evaluation of the use of this system to teach second year students of Architecture at Sheffield University the authoring and inference aspects of the system were substantially improved. The system is now being extended to demonstrate the support of some aspects of Cognitive Science and Psychology. The HAN system integrates artificial intelligence and flexible learning techniques in a dual-platform experiment with hypertext and semantic network architectures.

On integrating hypermedia into decision support and other information systems
The goal of this research is to provide hypermedia functionality to all information systems that interact with people. Hypermedia is a concept involving access to information, embodying the notions of context-sensitive navigation, annotation and tailored presentation. We present the architecture of a system-level hyperniedia engine, designed both to manage full hypermedia functionality for an i...
متن کاملKNOWEL: A Hypermedia Knowledge Editor
A popular approach for organising and accessing information is the hypermedia approach. One of the features that is weak in current hypermedia systems is the semantics of the nodes and links. In principle nodes are classified into categories while links represent abstract relationships among concepts. In this paper we present the implementation of parts of an object oriented data model that rep...
متن کاملAdaptive Hypermedia Based on Metaphors as an Instructional Strategy
Analogy and metaphor can be a powerful instructional strategy when used as cognitive tools. In a previous work, we have described a learning environment based on analogy and metaphor and on concept mapping as instructional strategies. In this paper, we concentrate on the hypermedia part of this environment, and we describe the analogy links, the adaptation to the user and a prototype realized f...
متن کاملConcept maps as hypermedia components
Concept mapping has a history of use in many disciplines as a formal or semi-formal diagramming technique. Concept maps have an abstract structure as typed hypergraphs, and computer support for concept mapping can associate visual attributes with node types to provide an attractive and consistent appearance. Computer support can also provide interactive interfaces allowing arbitrary actions to ...
متن کاملKNET: Integrating Hypermedia and Bayesian Modeling
KNET is a general-purpose shell for constructing expert systems based on belief networks and de cision networks. Such networks serve as graphi cal representations for decision models, in which the knowledge engineer must define clearly the al ternatives, states, preferences, and relationships that constitute a decision basis. KNET contains a knowledge-engineering core written in Object Pasca...
